At Serenia Life, we believe that by helping others, you can grow as a person and feel like an integral part of your community – that’s why we invite our members to volunteer in their communities.
Serenia Life’s Volunteer Benefit will help cover the costs of volunteering within Canada with a reimbursement of up to $400 to cover any costs related to your volunteer work. If there were no associated expenses, feel free to donate the money to the cause that you’re supporting. Note that volunteer opportunities can be done either virtually or in person.
Here’s how the benefit works, based on the number of hours volunteered:
- Volunteer up to 25 hours – receive $200 (that’s $100 when you apply and $100 after you submit your post-volunteer event survey)
- Volunteer between 26 and 74 hours – receive $300 (that’s $150 when you apply and $150 after you submit your post-volunteer event survey)
- Volunteer for 75 hours or more – receive $400 (that’s $200 when you apply and $200 after you submit your post-volunteer event survey)

Frequently Asked Questions
The purpose of the Volunteer Benefit is to help cover upfront costs for members who wish to volunteer in their community.
This benefit includes a cheque from Serenia Life that ranges from $200 to $400 to go towards the costs of a member’s volunteering activities. Half of the volunteer funding is awarded up front, and the remaining amount will be sent after the member has completed their volunteer opportunity and submitted their post-volunteer survey.
- For a volunteer opportunity that will require up to 25 hours of a member’s time, members will receive $200.
- For a volunteer opportunity that will require between 26 and 74 hours of a member’s time, members will receive $300.
- For a volunteer opportunity that will require 75+ hours of a member’s time, members will receive $400.
The amount of money a member receives depends on their volunteering goal. We’ll give them half of their funding up front, and the rest after they’ve completed their post-volunteer survey. The post-volunteer survey will tell us whether or not the member has completed the specified number of volunteer hours, and their final payment will depend on its completion.
The member can expect to receive their funding via cheque in the mail.
The member can expect to receive their cheque in the mail up to 30 days after applying.
After completing the post-volunteer survey, the cheque will be mailed to the member within 3 weeks, if they meet the volunteer requirements.

Members should apply at least 5 weeks before their volunteer opportunity is scheduled to take place. The Volunteer Benefit will not be awarded for past volunteer opportunities.
Members must complete their volunteering and fill out the post-volunteer survey to qualify for the post-event donation to a registered charity.
Volunteering can sometimes cost money. That’s why we provide our members with funds to help cover the costs of volunteering, such as transportation costs, meals, police record checks, etc.
Each volunteer will need to apply for their own Volunteer Benefit. Please note that we reserve the right to limit funding to two Volunteer Benefits per cause.
Serenia Life reviews applications on an individual basis. We reserve the right to limit the volunteer opportunities supported and Volunteer Benefits awarded. We also reserve the right not to fund volunteering that is divisive or political in nature.
Yes, up to two Serenia Life members can volunteer for the same causes. Please note that we will require two separate applications.
If members require less volunteer money than awarded, we recommend that they put the rest of the funds towards a donation to the cause that they’re supporting.
Each member may apply for either a Fundraiser or a Volunteer Benefit once per cause or organization, per year. For example, if you are both fundraising and volunteering at an event or for a cause, you can only apply for one benefit (Fundraiser OR Volunteer) in one calendar year. However, you may apply for both benefits if you are fundraising for one cause/organization and volunteering for another.
The eligibility requirements for this benefit include:
- applicant must be a member*** and have an active Serenia Life policy
- Member must be 18 years of age or older or they can ask one of their guardians / parents to sign the Serenia Life Financial Fundraiser/Volunteer Teams TERMS AND CONDITIONS – MINOR form.
- member may qualify for only one Volunteer Benefit per calendar year
Serenia Life reserves the right to limit funding to two Volunteer Benefits per cause each year.
